When March rolls around, Buffalonians know it’s time for Girl Scout Cookie orders to start arriving. As total beer lovers, we see no reason to set aside our pint glasses to indulge in our favorite cookies. Instead, we took our top 3 Girl Scout cookie flavors and found the perfect Buffalocal craft beers to pair with them!
1. Caramel DeLites
These shortbread cookies are topped with caramel, toasted coconut and fudge stripes. For a complimentary match, pair these decadent treats with a bock or Vienna lager whose malt bill will complement the sweetness and caramel notes found in the cookie. To contrast the sweetness, reach for a brown ale. The ale’s drier body and hops will hold up well against the sugars in the cookie for a bold and balanced tasting experience.
2. Thin Mints
These crunchy chocolate wafers are bursting with mint flavor and covered in dark chocolate. Bold flavors like this call for a beer pairing that can match in intensity. The rich chocolate notes in a stout will perfectly amplify those found in the cookie while leaving room for the mint to shine through on the finish. To add some complexity, try a coffee porter whose roasted notes will contrast with the bold mint and chocolate.
These shortbread cookies have a tangy layer of lemon icing and a refreshing overall taste. A fruited sour will offer up a berry lemonade-like flavor explosion that is both sweet and tart. For a smoother option, grab a hefeweizen whose soft wheat body will round out some of the lemon notes. For a crisper option, reach for a Blonde Ale whose clean finish and light body will cut the richness of the buttery shortbread.
