Did you know? The National American Blueberry Council founded National Blueberry Month, which became officially recognized by the United States Department of Agriculture in 2003. So given that, we thought it might be nice to put a list of some great Blueberry Beers together.
Kicking off the list is Ellicottville Brewing Company Blueberry Wheat, which is the flagship beer of this Buffalocal brand. While this beer is made year-round, this light and crisp beverage makes for a great choice on a hot Summer day. Coming in at 4.8% ABV and 11 IBU, this beer has a mellow blueberry flavor and can be accentuated by some floating blueberries.
Ellicottville Brewing Company also has their Chilanga ale still on store shelves. Released in the late Spring, this Blueberry, Hibiscus and Agave Ale is brewed in collaboration with Falling Piano Brewing Company from Mexico City. Find the 4-pack cans or bottled in the limited edition Infusion Variety 12-Packs, which also include Cranberry Sage, Honey Jasmine, and Elderberry Helles.
Another Buffalocal brewery that makes a blueberry beer year-round is Pearl Street Grill & Brewery with their Blue Eyed Blueberry Blonde Ale, which comes in at 3.9% ABV and 7 IBU. Now that restaurants have reopened, this is a perfect beer to enjoy on their large patio.
While it was only a limited release last year, we do hope that 42 North Brewing Company will be bringing back their “Pie” sour beer series, as they did both a strawberry rhubarb pie and a blueberry pie flavored sour ale.
